Who books online, counted from real websites.
Every number on this page comes from local business websites we loaded in a real browser and checked ourselves. Nothing is estimated or taken from a survey. We add a new scan here each week, newest first.

October 27, 2026: Roscoe Village and North Center, Chicago
We searched for auto repair shops, barbers, chiropractors, massage therapists, salons and spas, and veterinarians in two North Side Chicago neighborhoods. The searches returned 119 websites. 52 of them were independent local businesses we could confirm. The rest were directories, national sites, chains or sites we couldn’t confirm, and they aren’t counted.
For each of the 52 we loaded the website on desktop and iPhone and answered one question: can a customer book online from this site? The answer is yes, no or unsure, and only what we saw on the page counts.
44 of 52 (85%) let customers book online. 7 (13%) did not, and 1 was unsure.
| Business type | Checked | Book online | No online booking | Unsure |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Salons and spas | 19 | 14 | 4 | 1 |
| Chiropractors | 11 | 11 | 0 | 0 |
| Auto repair | 9 | 6 | 3 | 0 |
| Massage therapy | 7 | 7 | 0 | 0 |
| Barbers | 4 | 4 | 0 | 0 |
| Veterinarians | 2 | 2 | 0 | 0 |
| All | 52 | 44 | 7 | 1 |
Which booking systems they use
When a site’s booking button led to a booking system we could name, we recorded it. Of the 44 businesses that book online, 25 used a named system and 19 had a booking button or page on their own site where we couldn’t name the system behind it.
- Salons and spas were the most fragmented. The 14 that book online used at least 9 different systems: Vagaro (2), GlossGenius (2), and one each on Meevo, Fresha, Boulevard, Booksy, Phorest, Setmore and Schedulicity. 3 more had a booking button with no named system.
- Vagaro was the most common named system overall, on 5 of the 44, across salons, massage and chiropractic.
- Auto repair shops mostly book on their own site. 5 of the 6 that book online use their own appointment page or form. 1 uses Tekmetric.
What it means if you sell booking software
- In these neighborhoods, most of the opportunity is switching, not first-time booking. 7 businesses had no online booking. 25 named the system they use, which tells a rep exactly which competitor they’re replacing.
- Auto repair is the exception. 1 in 3 shops we checked still books by phone, and most of the rest use a basic form on their own site.
- These are small numbers from two neighborhoods. Treat them as one week’s count, not a citywide rate. Bigger markets and more weeks will follow here.
How we count
- Only local, independent businesses count. Directories, listing sites, national brands and chains are dropped before counting.
- Each answer comes from the business’s own website, loaded in a real browser on desktop and iPhone. A booking button counts as yes. A page that only says “call to book” counts as no. Anything we couldn’t settle is unsure and isn’t counted as either.
- Booking systems are named only when the booking link goes to one, so a system that’s hidden behind the business’s own form is counted as “own site”.
- We don’t work in California or Canada for now, so they won’t appear here.
